Interpreting and Translating
Guidelines for organizing a multilingual conference
Before the conference begins, interpreters need suficient time and materials to prepare themselves.
Necessary materials include:
-
notes from the speakers
-
scripts
-
presentations
-
films and clips
-
previous translations from the company
-
list of speakers/participants
-
resources or links to stay consistent with the prefered terminology.
All materials will be handled confidentially and will not be passed on.
Please note:
-
The booths should be positioned to allow the interpreters a clear view of the stage, projection screen, flipcharts etc.
-
It is important to insure that all presentors speak directly into the microphone, all names and numbers are clearly pronounced and abreviations explained.
-
Please provide a copy of all texts to be read aloud including passages and quotations. It is best if all presentors speak in their mother language.
-
Communication is most effective when written translations are made by the same interpretors to insure consistent terminology.
-
Recordings from audio, video or internet use are possible only with prior payment and permission.
